As for its first version, FROG_V2 is software that calculates the fractal dimension of objects using various treatments, from raw images or bmp formats.

One of the first functions extracts an object according to its gray tone values in order to characterize its shape by means of a linear processing, counting boxes Brownian movement, etc.. This extraction involves the visual interpretation of gray tone, the notion of roughness of gray tones (see the "thresholding fractal" below) helps define threshold values. From the binary image thus obtained, a labeling function separates the various elements that compose eventually the object in order to study or compare those elements. Using the labeled image, a number of new functions allows manipulating the elements of the image in order to specify and define their gray tone values, regrouping them manually or by means of mathematical morphology treatments; it is then possible to characterize the features of a reconstituted component through fractal dimension calculation applied to the surface of the object or through the distribution of its gray tones (see inter alia the functions "Star8 or 4" or "GrayTone Sequence" below).

Other parameters are calculated directly on the gray tones values: local fractal dimension, radial fractal dimension roughness dimension, prismatic fractal measurement, etc. These functions consider the whole scene or the elements obtained by binarization or labeling.

Moreover, it is possible to extract gray tones sequences of the whole scene, of selected scene or diversely oriented lines or by using as mask binary elements. The sequence thus obtained calculates various parameters such as the Hurst exponent.

Was added in this version a panel of treatments grouped in a sub-menu that corresponds to the study of urban space (fractal exploration of space, distance to the perimeter, etc.) as well as the study of different objects.

Finally, the software creates a comprehensive report where are reported all the operations performed, the values of the parameters obtained, and the name of the images and diagrams recorded.

The new software version is friendlier, presents new functions such as registration of a palette or the ability to modify data directly on the screen. That is to say that, in its present version, the software FROG_V2 represents an indispensable tool to study the fractal dimension in its various aspects.
